Luke Combs, renowned for his heart-touching songs like “Forever After All” and “She Got the Best of Me,” has recently revealed a more personal side of himself. In an honest interview with Apple Music’s Kelleigh Bannen, Combs candidly discussed his battles with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Battling Anxiety and OCD
“I did experience significant anxiety at periods in my life,” Combs shared with Bannen. “My OCD was pretty bad. I mean, crippling is the word I’d use.” Despite these challenges, Combs has found the strength to continue making and recording music, achieving chart-topping hits like “Hurricane” and “Beer Never Broke My Heart.” For years, however, he dealt with anxiety and intrusive thoughts that affected his well-being.
Finding Strength in Acceptance
One key aspect of Combs’ journey has been learning to accept and live with uncertainty regarding matters beyond his control. He noted that becoming a father and being able to stay home during the pandemic, rather than constantly touring, brought him solace and perspective.
Embracing Fatherhood
Welcoming his son, Tex, into the world has profoundly changed Combs’ outlook on life. “I look at things in ways I never would’ve before,” he shared. “There are things that used to matter, but now, you just don’t give a damn about it anymore. Almost immediately, you’re just like, ‘I don’t care about it. I don’t give a damn.’” This newfound perspective has allowed him to prioritize what truly matters in his life.
Sharing His Story
In the conversation with Bannen, Combs also discusses his journey into parenthood, his successful career, and his new album, Growin Up. His openness about his struggles with mental health provides comfort and inspiration to those facing similar challenges, reminding us all that even amidst success, difficult times can arise.
Luke Combs’ willingness to share his story not only highlights his resilience but also encourages others to seek strength in vulnerability.
